The Tern is the next boat whose portrait I want to paint soon. I am still trying to see what it is about this fairly typical boat that pleases me so much.

For me this knowledge is essential in order to create a painting. Usually it's  obvious to me already before I make the sketch.  But my creative process has been changing over the past year, moving more slowly, allowing more down time for ideas to emerge and change even during the painting work. So maybe I'm ready to start this painting more tentatively too. Although my previous experience says that is the way to instant disaster. Watercolor is a medium that usually works best well planned, clearly thought out in advance.
