Entry for November 26, 2006 ![]() "Lolling Trawler" achieves best the feeling of strength that impressed me 18 months ago, when I first saw the boat that inspired it in Monterey harbor. For me this painting is the result of seven years' work gathering images of the vanishing small fishing boat along the Pacific coast. The images are important to paint and cherish, and their disappearance will impoverish all in a number of ways.
I believe that that old way of harvesting fish was viable and nourishing to us. What is now destroying the positive human-fish exchange that worked well for millions of years is--industrialization of fishing and pollution of the seas. 2006-11-26 21:15:31 GMT
