Entry for January 6, 2009 ![]() Welcome! Just finished this morning about 9 am, "Pier Group" was inspired by a visit to the harbor just after the local crab season was cancelled in 2007 because of an oil spill in San Francisco Bay. These crabbers were clustered on the pier spilling out their frustration with their fellows over the tardy state agency response to the accident. I combined my photo (unposed) of the three on the left with another--taken at a later time--of a fisherman doing maintenance on his boat nearby. The sketching, planning, drawing, and painting altogether took about 18 hours from start to finish over a period of five days. The idea of the title "Pier Group" as both a pun and also an impression of the relationships pictured occured to me as I awoke one morning soon after I had begun the work. Maybe you will enjoy imagining the conversation and the personalities of those involved as you look at this work. Thanks for stopping by! Carol
